The Softest Cotton for your Baby

Many people ask, why are the sheets made by Living Textiles Baby & Kids so much softer and smoother than other brand’s on the market…..well, we simply say, we use lots of steps in our production process to make the cotton as soft and smooth as possible for your baby’s delicate skin. All of these steps include:

We use high thread count cotton – percale cotton!

Thread count is a measure of how many threads, both lengthwise and widthwise, are woven into one square inch of fabric. The thread count of “standard” cotton is around 120-150 threads. A count of 200 and higher is considered “percale”.  The construction and quality of the yarn also affects the thread count. When finer threads are used, more can be woven into each square inch, producing a finer, softer and more flexible fabric. Our products only use high quality yarn to produce our percale cotton. Your baby will be sleeping in the best quality cotton available!

Our Cotton has long fibres

The softness of a fabric depends mostly on the quality of the cotton fiber used. This is the reason why a 200-thread-count fine cotton sheet can have a softer “hand” feel than a 400-thread-count sheet. The quality of the cotton depends on the lengths of its individual fibers, the longer the fibers, the better quality the cotton is. Cotton can then be spun into a finer-textured thread with more tensile strength, and woven into a softer and smoother fabric. All the Living Textiles Baby & Kids linen use 100% extra-fine, combed percale cotton which is acknowledged as the softest, best-quality cotton available for your child.

Comb the cotton

Once the raw cotton is blended and cleaned, it is carded to remove any short fibers and dirt that can cause yarn breakage during weaving. After carding, Living Textiles Baby & Kids uses a combing process which removes more of the short fibers. This means the longest fibers are used for spinning into a yarn ultimately creating high quality cotton that is stronger and finer to touch. This is exactly the high quality cotton we use!

The final stage

The finishing processes we use at Living Textiles Baby & Kids contribute enormously to the way our bedding feels. Once the cotton is combed, a finishing process is applied to help reduce wrinkling, maintain the brightness of colours and give the fabric a smooth hand-feel and silky look.
When your child falls asleep in the finest and softest Living Textiles Baby & Kids linen, you can rest easy knowing that the highest possible care and attention has gone into every step of production of our products.
